The Five Rivers Initiative is a movement within Nicholas and Webster counties that will bring a much needed economic boost to the area. This initiative involves farming and farm-related employment. We are working to expand local food production while training the next generation of small farmers in our area
We have begun working with the West Virginia Workforce and New River Community and Technical College to train new and beginning farmers. We are training retirees, young people new to the workforce and those reentering the workforce. We pay particular interest to those who have worked in the coal and timber industries that have been vital to central West Virginia.
